Editorial standards and safety
BugOffBugs helps readers recognize common pest problems and make safer first decisions. Our guides emphasize identifying the source, reducing food and water access, sealing entry points, and knowing when professional assistance is appropriate.
What each guide should explain
A useful guide describes observable signs, practical prevention steps, methods to avoid, and circumstances that call for a qualified pest professional. A bite or a photograph alone may not establish an insect species. Guidance is educational and cannot replace an on-site inspection.
Safety before shortcuts
Natural does not always mean harmless. Do not mix household cleaners, improvise pesticide mixtures, or use unregistered products. Follow applicable local regulations and product labels. For infestations involving rodents, bed bugs, structural damage, severe allergies, or possible disease, consult qualified professionals or public-health authorities.
Evidence and limitations
Public-health and government pest-management guidance are useful starting points. Conditions, approved products, and regulations vary by location. We encourage readers to check Health Canada's pest-control guidance and their own local authority. General guidance cannot verify the conditions in an individual home.
Advertising independence
Advertising, if introduced, must be clearly distinguishable from the educational guidance. An advertiser cannot purchase a safer recommendation or change the order of safety steps. We will not disguise an advertisement as a pest-control instruction.
Corrections and contact
Information may need revision as guidance and local regulations change. See our contact page for current contact arrangements and the privacy policy for data and advertising disclosures.
